The latest edition of So Fi Zine is out now — read and download a diy print copy at sofizine.com.
Many many months in the making, this is a special issue of the zine brought to you from the Material and Virtual Culture course at the University of Alberta, which is run by Rob Shields. Rob and three of his students, Erin, Nicholas and Malcolm, have written essays on creativity in various forms: self-tracking, craft, homework, counterpower, rivers, safety pins, angels, zombies, and more.
As I say in my intro editorial, these four pieces bring some rich and weighty theoretical ideas together with a resistant form of creativity that I find important and really care about. These are ideas that I’ve been working with in other projects, and I know many other people are working with at the moment too, like materiality and performativity and power and the digital.
I am still working from home so until I go into campus to use the printer my experience of this edition has been in small paper pieces and on the screen. So, if you do print a copy, please share a photo with me. I check #sofizine on twitter and insta, you can tag me (@awtsn) or email me at ashleigh.watson@unsw.edu.au.
Submissions for So Fi Zine #8 will open next month. I’m really stoked to have Ruha Benjamin on board as guest editor. Get your short fiction, poetry and visual art ready! I’ll post updates on this as they’re ready.
