Since my last update, three new stores have joined The Sociological Review fiction series: Three Indian Women Drinking Tea by Rebecca Rexy, Welcome to Destination by Hongwei Bao, and The Red and Gold Pen by Supurna Banerjee, Anchita Ghatak, Lauren Wilks and Samia Singh. This brings us to a 41-strong collection of sociological fiction!
Three Indian Women Drinking Tea responds to the death of Queen Elizabeth II: the thick whirlpool of online information, the cultural spectres of colonisation, the multisensory tensions of intergenerational conversations.
Welcome to Destination is a flash fiction introduction to the urban gay clubbing scene, both its shadows and bright lights.
The Red and Gold Pen, written by Banerjee, Ghatak and Wilks and illustrated by Singh, explores the everyday ways that commuting is negotiated by paid domestic workers in Kolkata. You can read it in English and Bangla.
It look a long time for us to be able to publish this story in English and Bangla: the digital infrastructure required significant technical upgrades to service multiple languages, and as a result of this story’s publishing process the whole TSR platform has been improved and made more accessible for more readers and writers around the world.
You can enjoy all of the pieces in the series here, or find out more about submitting to Fiction @ The Sociological Review here.
